OpenLearning Launches Ground-breaking AI-Powered Learning Design Tools for Education Providers

Sydney, Australia, 3rd May 2023 - OpenLearning Limited, the AI powered SaaS platform for lifelong learning (‘OpenLearning’ or ‘the Company’) (ASX: OLL), today announced the launch of its new generative AI-powered course authoring tools, set to change the way education providers create and deliver content.

Developed on Microsoft Azure’s OpenAI Service, these cutting-edge tools harness the power of GPT-4 APIs, streamlining course design, and helping reduce the time and effort required to develop high quality short courses, micro-credentials and online degrees.

By leveraging OpenLearning's unique approach to active learning and social constructivism, these AI-driven tools will generate course content and learning activities in line with OpenLearning's educational philosophy. The embedded generative AI provides tailored suggestions to educators during the course design process, helping them create more engaging and effective learning experiences.

"Building these tools using Azure OpenAI Service has allowed us to develop a truly innovative solution that will enable education providers to design high-quality courses faster and more efficiently than ever before. Our focus is on empowering educators and education providers to design and deliver high-quality learning experiences, while ensuring the responsible use of AI."
Adam Brimo, CEO of OpenLearning

To uphold the integrity of education, OpenLearning will not provide access to generative AI tools to students through its platform. Instead, the company will concentrate on supporting educators in their course creation and delivery process.

OpenLearning will provide access to the AI-powered tools to selected partners to gather feedback and measure their effectiveness. The participants of the pilot program include Western Sydney University, Education Centre of Australia, Universiti Tenaga Nasional Malaysia (UNITEN), Sunway University Malaysia and University of Wollongong KDU Malaysia.

"This collaboration with OpenLearning demonstrates our dedication to embracing innovative technologies that can enable the future of education. We look forward to exploring how these AI-powered tools can assist us to deliver more personalised and effective learning experiences for our learners."
Cherie Diaz, Executive Director, Education Innovation, at Western Sydney University

"We are delighted to partner with OpenLearning and explore the potential of AI-driven course design. This technology will help us maintain our commitment to delivering high-quality, engaging learning experiences to our students, while ensuring the responsible use of AI."
Professor Dr Hiew Pang Leang, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wollongong KDU Malaysia

"OpenLearning's AI-powered course authoring tools will transform the way we design and deliver our courses. Generative AI tools will dramatically shape the future of work. Thus, we need to equip our educators and learners with the enhanced capacity to use these tools effectively, ethically and responsibly. We're excited to be part of the pilot program and look forward to seeing how these innovative tools can enhance our students' wholesome learning experiences."
Prof. Dr. Abhi Veerakumarasivam, Provost of Sunway University Malaysia

"I believe OpenLearning’s new AI feature is set to revolutionise the platform’s usability and significantly enhance the online learning experience. Users can expect a more personalised and efficient learning experience with this addition. We are excited to see how this will enhance the dynamic between learners and educators on this platform."
Professor Dr. Abd Karim Alias of the Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN)

Already one of the world’s largest online education platforms with over three million learners and more than 200 universities and colleges, OpenLearning expects that its AI-powered course authoring tools will attract more institutions to its platform as the efficiency gains from these new tools become apparent.

One of OpenLearning's critical design features is its ability to capture students' learning processes, assessing 'how a student learned' rather than 'what they know.' This evidence-based approach to learning combats the potential misuse of generative AI by students and provides education providers an insight into students’ capability even when they use generative AI, ensuring the integrity and quality of education.
